EDF Energy Networks - Safety Management Software

EDF Energy Networks has been using the CASS and iCASS systems for the past ten years for the recording and monitoring of a very wide range of incidents from hazards to major incidents, to near misses to process audits. It is also used for the recording and monitoring of inspections / Audits and Risk Assessments.

We use the system to track an incident from it being initially reported, categorised, issued for investigation and monitoring of actions and now to include recording and managing the investigation process and root causes identified, so it has become a fundamental tool in the Health & Safety management process.

The system is used for providing data for regular safety conference calls, analysis in terms of Key Performance Indicators (KPI's) and Performance Management Dashboards and Management Information Reports and therefore has been extensively used since introduction.

Information from the system is presented in a number of formats for ease of use, with reports available being issued out to managers on a daily basis, with links to actions from our reporting tool, the number of end users has increased to over 1600 by the end of 2009.

EDF Energy and Warwick International have been working together to make full use of the system and develop it further particularly the investigation module which has led to automation and control of the incident management process. Annual meetings with other users of the system provide us with ideas on how to improve and continue to develop our use of the system, which is excellently managed through the Warwick User Group Sessions.

As we use more and more of the system, we are looking at ways of utilising the data in the system to better manage Health & Safety across the business, and further increase use of the system as well as developing it so that we will get the most out of it.

The system has always been reliable, consistent and easy to use, the few problems encountered have been professionally and quickly handled by the support section.
