Bedford Occupational Health Services - Occupational Health Software

Bedford Occupational Health Service has been using the OPAS system within the department since 1999. Initially it was utilised for immunisation recall and scheduling but over time it was realised that there was huge potential for developing this bespoke system in many other areas.

In 2006, with the increasing demand for auditing services and a drive for more efficient preparation of invoices for our corporate clients, a date was set for the introduction of the electronic diary. With Warwick IC Systems help we made an extremely smooth transition to its use and haven’t looked back. With minimal training both administrative and clinical staff are able to access and manage appointments and clinic time. The time that has been created by this change in practice has been invaluable, administrative staff have been freed to undertake other important tasks and clinical staff are able to audit and provide quality reports.

Attending regular User Meetings has demonstrated that Warwick is committed to improving the OPAS software, by continually upgrading in response to user comments and requests. Recent improvements to the diary, in particular, have made this user-friendly software even easier to use and improved the data that we can provide for service users and stakeholders alike.

This is an ongoing project and we continue to work with all at Warwick in striving towards a paper-free office with easily accessible data, which can be appropriately measured against our key performance indicators. Achieving this aim will allow us to utilise nurse, doctor, technician and administrative time in a cost effective manner to provide a robust proactive OH Service to our clients. We will be able to do this secure in the knowledge that our comprehensive OPAS system will continue to develop, with excellent support and teamwork, in relation to our changing needs.
